A whole lot of spectulation and extrapolation. I'd personally like to see evidence before taking anything in the flick to heart (remember the Loose Change fiasco?).
I don't doubt that this is true in the least. Even simple games like Bejeweled are used to data mine how people interact with computers and recognize patterns.
This is part of the information revolution - in exchange for greater personalization and adaptability, we start giving up privacy. There's nothing very sinister about it, since we do it willingly - even desire it.
The trick is, we just need to make sure Big Brother really does care about us. Then it's very good for us; I'm hoping it's more profitable to be nice to us...
But Big Brother doesn't care. I believe that it is more profitable for companies to be nice to us. But apparently, most companies don't. And politicians evidently don't; at least, not the ones in power at the moment.
Some organizations, I trust. Google, for one; I'm willing to give them quite a bit of information about me. But we should hold onto our privacy as much as we can in general.
There needs to a greater public awareness about how to do that. I've seen some good PSA commercials about what it means to put stuff on the internet, but all too often it sounds like the parents being overprotective. Kids just don't practice safe anything.
The price to pay for the internet age, it seems. It really comes down to people being more aware of what they do on the web. The terms of service are clearly laid out, but most just ignore them.
